What you’ll do:

The Crisis Navigation Therapist (CNT) will provide direct service crisis de-escalation and counseling to individuals using a Systems based approach to interventions. The goal of the CN Therapist is to provide individuals, who are voluntary and able to give informed consent, assistance in accessing post-crisis services including, but not limited to, resources for food, housing, financial support, ongoing mental health support, and identifying ongoing support systems. Services will also include Assessments, transportation services, psychoeducation, psychotherapy, and referral services to individuals within Maricopa County.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct in-home and community-based crisis counseling and follow-up services as assigned. Individual, family, and services will be provided to individuals to enhance and expand treatment.
  • Provide psychotherapy for the purpose of post crisis support, possible assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to individuals.
  • Provide comprehensive services to clients and coordinate communication with other departments in the agency to accomplish continuity of care. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all related state, community behavioral health, and contracting organizations.
  • Ensure quality service delivery including clinical care and all associated documentation.
  • Maintain all client records in accordance with agency policies and procedures. This includes appropriate phone documentation, intake documentation, endangerment triaging, treatment planning, referral triaging, risk planning, termination documentation, interagency reports, and follow-up documentation.
  • Ensure job duties are performed in a safe manner; provide support for team members and perform cooperatively and professionally as part of a cohesive team.
  • Work independently and responsibly, and participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of treatment and prevention programs.
  • Recommend to the Program Coordinator or Manager changes that would improve service delivery. Select and develop one specialized function related to the development of department services.
  • Administer instruction and training for interns, pool staff, and new staff as assigned by the Program Coordinator or Department Manager. This may include development and implementation of training for other community partners.
  • Participate in all regularly scheduled department meetings. Required to receive at least 4 hours of supervision per month from a coordinator in the department.

Department Requirements:

In this position you may be required to:

  • Work beyond scheduled work hours to complete required paperwork or to complete crisis stabilization tasks. Evening and night hours may be required.
  • Work a holiday if your shift falls on that given day.
  • Work in potentially volatile situations and react in a professional manner to crisis situations regardless of the nature of the environment or circumstances.
  • Oversee everyday functioning of department vehicles and immediately report incidents involving damage or theft. May be required to do basic safety checks on vehicles (oil, tire air pressure, etc.)
  • Attend all mandatory meetings regardless of if they fall on a day that is outside the regularly scheduled shift or if they occur after the end of a shift. If department meetings or scheduled supervision are missed because of a crisis call, the therapist is required to reschedule the meeting to assure that all supervision requirements are met.
  • Be flexible in terms of shift location and change location if requested at the beginning of the shift to better meet the needs of the department.
  • May be required to use own personal vehicle if agency van is out of service or unavailable but will not be required to transport clients in a personal vehicle.

Please note: This position receives a differential in pay, which is specific to this position only. If one wishes to accept a different position in the agency, the differential will not follow. The following responsibilities accompany the position and, along with the high-risk nature of the work in the department, account for the differential.

What you’ll provide:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
  • Organizational skills
  • Must be reliable.
  • Be trauma-informed, have clear and effective communication skills, strong customer service, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Efficient in Clinical documentation.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm when assisting high-risk clients.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in a Behavioral Health related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous experience in a related Behavior Health field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Therapist.
  • Previous experience with hard to navigate clients preferred.

What you’ll experience:

  • The typical work environment will be outside of client office in shelters, client homes, hospitals, or other places of residence.
  • Employees must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Occasional travel to training and out-of-state locations may occur as-needed.
