Job Description

Description:
Sorting and Baling of Industrial and Manufacturing Dry Waste, consisting of mostly Paper, Cardboard, Plastic and Wood.

This is NOT Sorting of Residential/Commercial Garbage/Waste Material!

Shift, Schedule and Hours:

Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays

1st Shift 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM ($13 per hour)

2nd Shift 4pm- 11:30pm ($13 per hour) (Opens at the beginning of May, call in two weeks if interested)

Pay Rate:

$13 Per Hour

Duties:

  • Remove Industrial and Manufacturing Dry Waste Material from a moving conveyor, by hand and load waste materials into separating bins.
  • Assist in keeping the work area free from debris, sweeping the work area as needed and at the end of the day.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Previous Sorting and/or Visual Inspection experience preferred, but not required, will train.
  • Previous experience in plant environment preferred.
  • Must be capable of learning specific sorting and material handling procedures.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and discriminate between specified items.
  • Ability to continuously perform light to medium work requiring the lifting and manipulation of Dry Industrial Waste Material. 5 to 10 pounds is normal and average, but must be able to lift and manipulate 40 to 50 pounds, unassisted, on a repetitive basis.
  • Requires prolonged Standing, Walking and Repetitive Motion such as: Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Bending, Stooping, Crouching, Handling, Visually Inspecting, and Separating Dry Waste Material from the conveyor and into the proper bins.
  • Must be able to work Saturdays, as required and Directed, expected to be about once a month.

Personal Protective Safety Equipment:

Steel Toed Safety Work Boots/Shoes are Required.
No Tennis Shoes, Open Toed Shoes, Boots, Flip Flops or Sandals allowed and No Crocks Allowed.

Protective Orange Vests, Gloves and Safety Glasses, Provided by MeritHall and/or Hamtramck Recycling.

Old, Dirty or Damaged Vests, Gloves and Safety Glasses can be turned in and will be replaced, free of charge.

Additional Vests, Gloves and Safety Glasses can be purchased by employee.

If employee forgets, misplaces or looses his Vest Gloves or Glasses the employee will be charged for a replacement(s).

Lockers are available to store your Vest, Gloves, Glasses, Personal Effects and Clothing in. Employee must provide own lock. Locks will be cut off and not replaced if left on after assignment ends or in the event of a "No Call/No Show' status for two days or more.

Dress Attire:

Long or Short Sleeved Shirts, only; no Sleeveless Shirts allowed. No Printed Offensive or Profanity on shirts allowed.

Long Pants, only; Denim or Dickie Brand recommended. No Yoga Pants, Shorts, Skirts or Dresses allowed.

Watches, Bracelets, Necklaces or other accessories that could get caught in the waste material and cause personal injury or hindrance of job performance are not allowed.

Shift and Hours:

Normal Schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM with two paid breaks (at supervisors discretion) and an un-paid 1/2 hour Lunch Break.

There is an Attendance, Production and Profitability Program in place with competitive tracking and three prize drawings.

Drug Screen & Background Check:

All New Employee Placements At Hamtramck Recycling Must Provide A Negative 12-Panel - No THC Drug Screen Prior To Their Assignment To Hamtramck Recycling.

Also, Please Perform a 12 Panel - No THC Drug Screen on any returning Employees that have been out of the Plant for more than
30-Days.
