Job Summary:

CNPC USA is actively seeking creative, innovative, best-in-class experts to join our growing team. The Sr. Drilling Specialist (Domain Expert) is primarily responsible for transferring the practical, working knowledge and nuances of a subject problem to the R & D team, to facilitate the development of an optimized value-added solution.

This position reports to the Sr. R & D Manager DHT with direct interactions and responsibilities with various project teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert domain knowledge to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the drilling process, optimizing product design and application.
  • Contribute insights to refine algorithms and software developments, enhancing drilling efficiency and advancing drilling automation initiatives.
  • Continuously analyze data, identify patterns, categorize dysfunction, and implement preventive methodologies to mitigate vibrations in drilling systems.
  • Collaborate in the development of mathematical models and computer algorithms aimed at predicting and recognizing vibration phenomena.
  • Collects and analyzes down-hole measurement products data to access performance to SOR, calibrate models and algorithms development and build validation for value-oriented applications.
  • Author/co-author technical reports, papers, articles, patents, and presentations
  • Mentor colleagues, sharing expertise and knowledge to foster professional growth and development within the team.
  • Take lead responsibilities for optimum execution of field trials for program execution, performance optimization and data collection.
  • Conduct all business activities in accordance with CNPC USA core values.

  • Flexibly undertake additional duties and responsibilities as necessary to support the team and achieve organizational goals.

Key Skills:

• Proven track record of leveraging data analytics to optimize drilling efficiency.

• Advanced expertise in the drilling process, encompassing all BHA components, directional drilling geo-steering, mud systems, rig controls, and downhole environments.

• Extensive background in drilling engineering and operations, with comprehensive knowledge of drill string dynamics and drilling mechanics.

• Proficient in various drilling software applications, including Hydraulics, T&D, and WellCat.

• Proficiency in industry-standard data protocols and formats, such as WITS/WITSDML, is a requisite skill for this role.

• Possesses the meticulous and perseverant nature necessary for the rigorous demands of data analytics.

• Demonstrated ability to consistently deliver results on time, meeting targets, and maintaining high standards of quality and sustainability.

• Enhanced proficiency in time management, organization, presentation, and communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanics or Petroleum Engineering.
  • 15+ years’ experience in all aspects of the global drilling process: design, execution, trouble shooting and post-operations.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. This is a sedentary role; however, some filing, bending and the ability to lift 20 lbs. is required.

Travel:

This position requires some overnight international and domestic travel; as well as local travel between other CNPC USA locations and testing facilities is required.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, this role does act as a mentor and point of contact for other personnel.
