Job Summary

SI Professional Services is seeking a Construction Manager - Fire Protection Engineer (CM-FP) in New York, NY who can provide both construction management and fire protection engineering expertise. The ideal candidate will possess experience reviewing design and construction plans against existing site conditions. Experience in the resolution of unforeseen site and design conditions/problems and propose cost effective technical solutions, as well as experience conducting inspections and inventories of such structures to identify and note deficiencies, problems, or the general physical condition of such structures.

  • Provide planning, design, and construction support for restoration of the facility, related renovations, some aspects of the immediate recovery operations, and facility impact costs required as a result of Super-storm Sandy.
  • Supports Project Managers/Senior Resident Engineers in monitoring project progress and identifies potential problems.
  • Develops recommendations and strategies to address issues applying knowledge of current design and construction methodologies.
  • Serves individually and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for data management, analysis, and support on complex project issues and problems.
  • Applies project and construction management knowledge to meet field needs while managing issues on several projects simultaneously.
  • Assist the Hospital Recovery and Renovations Project’s Senior Resident Engineer in performing monitoring and inspection of construction for compliance with contract requirements.
  • Monitor and advise CFM on coordination of contract issues and develop/maintain an integrated master schedule for the overall program.
  • Compiles reports using various data to ensure accuracy and provides expertise on the development of metrics and solutions to mitigate risks associated with major construction projects.
  • Draft and distribute project updates and facilitating team communication.
  • Possess experience and the ability to liaise with project stakeholders about project requirements, timelines, and administrative reporting.

Education, Certifications, Affiliation:

  • The CM-FP shall possess a degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • The CM-FP shall have 5 years experiencing practicing Fire Protection engineering. (10 years’ experience strongly preferred).
  • The CM-FP shall have 5 years’ experience inspecting fire protection construction.
  • The CM-FP shall be able to complete an online OSHA 30-Hour Safety Training Class within 60 days of hiring.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of all aspects of commercial construction including but not limited to Life Safety systems, Sprinkler systems, Fire Alarm systems, HVAC systems, plumbing systems, testing and balancing, operations, sheet metal, duct systems, and control systems including direct digital controls.
  • Knowledge of low voltage systems including but not limited to fire alarm, telecommunication and data distribution, nurse call and code blue, motion intrusion detection, two way radio, security management and access control, public address, master antenna TV, and HVAC direct digital controls.
  • Ability to provide cost estimates and take-offs for contract modifications.
  • Ability to determine compliance of workmanship, materials, equipment and installed work with contract requirements and industry standards.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of building, safety, and environmental codes.
  • Working knowledge of environmental, civil, safety, architectural and structural fields.
  • Shall have experience in reviewing design and construction plans against existing site conditions.
  • Shall have experience in the resolution of unforeseen site and design conditions/problems and propose cost effective technical solutions.
  • Shall have experience conducting inspections and inventories of such structures to identify and note deficiencies, problems, or the general physical condition of such structures.
  • Knowledge of governmental contracting procedures, principles, guidelines and public law.
  • It is preferred, but not required, that the CM-FP shall possess experience working in the state of New York.
  • It is preferred, but not required, that the CM-FP shall possess commercial healthcare experience and strongly preferred that the CM-FP possess healthcare experience supporting the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of software programs to monitor, update, and produce work products by applying knowledge of computer literacy.
  • Ability to exercise good interpersonal skills.

Work Environment/Setting and Location:

  • Monday through Friday, Normal business hours 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Telework is allowed 1-2 days per week depending on worksite needs.
  • Will be working onsite with a team of 10-15 architecture, engineering, and construction professionals at the VA Hospital located at: 423 E 23rd St, New York, NY 10010
