Director of Experiential Learning

Full-Time, Exempt, Seasonal, Non-Benefited

SUMMARY

Faculty members are expected to be involved in the life of the summer programs throughout their three-week duration. This includes teaching two 10-day sessions of one of several programs for rising 7th-9th grade students. Programs include global change makers, medical science, digital arts, paleontology, and science & engineering. In addition, faculty members are expected to contribute positively and productively to a campus community that promotes the development of honor, leadership, and character.

RELATIONSHIPS

Faculty members report to the Director of Experiential Learning. All summer faculty will work closely with the Summer Program Dean of Students, co-teachers, and fellows to help create a positive and safe environment for learning and discovery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and teach two sessions of a 10-day experiential learning program for junior high/middle school students in one of the following fields: global changemakers, medical science, digital arts, paleontology, or science & engineering.
  • Work to help integrate field study, guest speakers, and local resources into the curriculum.
  • Complete brief academic reports for students, commenting on their progress and development over the course of the program.
  • Work with other summer program faculty and the dean to help create and maintain a healthy, safe, and supportive environment for students.
  • Promote the development of honor, character, and leadership in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • NOTE: The program runs from July 5 to July 29, with faculty and staff training from July 5-7 and students on campus attending session 1 from July 8 to July 17 and session 2 from July 19 to July 28. Teachers are expected to be available to assist with the program shutdown on July 29. Teachers will have the following days off during the summer program: July 13, 18, and 24.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Faculty positions have no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree required. Preferably in the academic discipline.

OTHER SKILLS

Faculty members must be:

  • Able to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Knowledgeable practitioners of their academic discipline.
  • Comfortable teaching the junior high/middle school age group.
  • Technologically literate and able to guide and direct students’ use of technology.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

A valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required. A criminal background check must be successfully completed before employment can begin.

COMPENSATION PHILOSOPHY

Anticipated salary range: $4,200 - $4,725. Salary will be dependent on the level of experience.

The Webb Schools offer competitive compensation. In setting position ranges, Webb reviews numerous factors including industry data from NAIS, CAIS, NBOA, and other market data.
