Job Description

Come join our team! As a Safety Lead Trainer, you will be responsible for training and supervising all new driver and vehicle monitor candidates, including but not limited to Classroom Instruction and Behind-the-Wheel training and testing, and coordinating annual evaluations for all company drivers. Additional responsibilities include communicating and upholding safety-related policies and procedures, conducting on-site visits to ensure safety practices and compliance, responding to collisions and injuries as needed, and preparing weekly reports for the Area Safety Manager. At all times you will ensure that company, state, and local standards are adhered to while building relationships with employees. Candidates must have 2+ years of experience as a school bus driver or driver trainer, valid Commercial Driver’s License, and High School Diploma or equivalent. Read more to apply!

Schedule: Monday-Friday

Pay Range: $50,000-$53,000

Responsibilities:

  • Works directly with Terminal Manager in supervising maintenance staff (including hiring and disciplinary actions); assists with coordinating leaves, evaluates performance and provides technical and safety training
  • Coordinate maintenance/mechanical needs at the terminal
  • Scheduling and auditing of maintenance repairs to include preventative, mechanical and electrical repair for vehicles in the terminal fleet
  • Participate in developing yearly maintenance budgets for the terminal
  • Perform and oversee PM inspections to ensure repairs are performed as outlined in the STA policies and procedures manual in accordance with State and Federal regulations
  • Ensures all defects are noted on PM inspections and drivers detect reports are being repaired in a timely manner and no vehicle is released for use with any defects that affect safe operations.
  • Prepares reports on work assignments and performs quality control inspections on completed repair work
  • Assists in tracking warranty and recall repairs
  • Flexibility to perform emergency roadside services if needed
  • Audits and helps control the parts, tools, and fuel inventories
  • Supply and maintain tools and workplace to ensure shop conditions are neat and orderly
  • Respond to after-hours and emergency situations when required.
  • On occasions, drive as a substitute drive for any route or activity
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized vehicle and equipment repair courses applicable to diesel bus or truck maintenance and repair
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience as a lead mechanic or manager in an automotive, school bus, trucking or heavy equipment
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Valid CDL is preferred with passenger and school bus endorsement or ability to obtain one
  • ASE certification is a plus
  • MS Office Suite experience
  • Complete all training requirements
  • Pre-employment background checks
  • Provides own hand tools required for regular maintenance
  • Note: Job may require on-call duty, extended hours, or weekend hours
