Job Description

Who We Are:

At Full Life, we are dedicated to providing exceptional services that are specifically tailored to the unique needs of individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities. Our top priority is improving our participants' overall well-being while promoting independence, inclusion, health, social opportunities, and personal growth. We take great pride in our customized approach, which emphasizes self-determination and fosters a sense of community and belonging for all.

For over two decades, Full Life has been a beacon of hope for individuals seeking assistance in leading a self-directed life. Our humble beginnings as a small agency have been transformed into a comprehensive support provider with not one but two offices located in Hilo and Kona and an Adult Day Health Learning Center in Kona. Our team, consisting of over a hundred highly committed employees, works tirelessly to ensure that each participant's unique needs are met with compassion and understanding.

What We Are Looking For

At Full Life, our young generation holds the key to the future of our community; that's why we are committed to exploring ways to create opportunities that can aid in their growth and success! We seek compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Youth Support Aides. The successful candidates will work with participants with intellectual disabilities or other special needs. Youth Support Aides are Direct Support Professionals who work with students with disabilities enrolled in an education program (DOE, Homeschool, or other education alternatives) ages 5-21. If this sounds like your cup of tea, we'd love to talk to you!

Responsibilities:

  • Assist students and participants with daily living activities: Support our students with intellectual/developmental disabilities with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, dressing, eating, and mobility. The Youth Support Aide may also help with medication management and any other medical needs the participant may have.
  • Community inclusion: Provide transportation and accompany students and youth participants to appointments and activities such as doctor's appointments, therapy sessions, and recreational activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation: Effectively monitor the progress and goals of our participants by keeping all documentation, such as progress notes and incident reports, well-organized and up to date. This ensures that we are on track to achieving our objectives. Additionally, maintaining proper documentation promotes accountability and transparency in our work, which is crucial in providing quality service to our participants.
  • Communication: Maintain consistent communication with families and other support group members to ensure continuity of care and to address any concerns or issues that arise.
  • Provide a safe and supportive learning environment: Promote a safe space where our students and young participants can learn and grow. Ensure that students and participants are safe from harm and that their physical and emotional needs are met based on the individualized plan goals and objectives.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities: Participate in development activities to enhance your skills and knowledge in the field of intellectual disabilities.

What You'll Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent: The Youth Support Aide should have a high school diploma or equivalent. A degree in a related field, such as special education, student aid, education, psychology, or social work, is preferred but not required. We will train the right candidate!
  • Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities or other special needs is a plus but not required.
  • Compassionate and patient: The Youth Support Aide should be empathetic and patient when working with students with challenging behaviors or communication difficulties.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills: The Youth Support Aide should have strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, families, and other professionals.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required. Youth Support Aide will also need to have a clean driving record.
  • Availability to work flexible hours: The Youth Support Aide should be available to work flexible hours, including after-school hours, potential weekends, and school breaks if approved by the Developmental Disabilities Division, to meet the needs of the students and families they serve. Availability is from Monday to Friday, any time after 1 p.m. to around 6 p.m. Required work hours are 20-25 hours per week, which would be spread over a few hours each day.
