Heavy Equipment Operator

Graphite One (Alaska) Inc. is hiring heavy equipment operators to support exploration activities at its Graphite Creek Project in western Alaska. Successful candidates will operate a Komatsu 290 excavator and rock hammer, and/or Cat D6N high-track dozer to establish access roads and trails that support diamond drilling. The successful candidate will help pioneer a system of drill trails from the Graphite Creek Camp to drill sites. These trails will be located on gentle to steeply rising side hill terrain.
Transportation to and from the site will be paid. Room and meals will be provided in the camp. Access to the camp is commercial airlines to Nome, Alaska followed by helicopter to the project site.
All Graphite One (Alaska) Inc camps, including the Nome Camp, are drug and alcohol-free facilities. Graphite One has a zero-tolerance policy for the possession of or job performance under the influence of any drug, including marijuana, or alcohol.
The position reports to the Project Manager.
The position is anticipated to last from early June to late September depending on weather conditions.
Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesSafetyWear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times where prescribed.
Regularly inspect the workplace and equipment for safety and housekeeping issues
Evaluate job risks and know how to exercise Stop-Work-Authority until risks are mitigated
Complete Job Hazard Assessments for all work tasks where required
Comply with all Graphite One site safety and company policies and procedures
Participate in daily toolbox / safety meetings
Report all leaks and spills
Conduct pre-shift inspections of equipment
Operate hydraulic excavators and/or tracked dozers in a remote mountainous environment on steep sidehill terrain
Operate an excavator mounted rock hammer
Operate equipment while skidding diamond drill skids between holes
Operate equipment to move snow in the early part of the season
Complete other general excavation work to support camp activities
Fuel and prepare the equipment for the next shift
Operate in a safe, efficient manner
Communicate respectfully with all camp employees, contractors, and consultants
The position will operate 12 hours per day on a 20 day on / 10 days off rotation.
QualificationsProficient in the operation of bulldozers and/or excavators.
A minimum of 5 years' experience with at least three being in steep terrain
Vocational training/certification for similar equipment types is a positive, but not required
Valid driver's license
Willingness to work in a remote camp site
Ability to operate and walk in steep terrain
Adaptable to change
Ability to work cooperatively with other employees, contractors, and consultants
Ability to work with minimal direct supervision
