Manager of Property Accounting

REPORTS TO: Director of Property Accounting

STATUS: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager of Property Accounting oversees an accounting team that is responsible for property financial reporting. This position will assume responsibility for the development and direction of the property accounting staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis of revenue and expenses.
  • Process cash receipts and monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Perform cash management duties, including wire transfers/bank check requests, deposit review, bank reconciliations, cash projections, and monitoring cash and accounts receivable balances.
  • Review monthly charges and tenant adjustments through lease-up.
  • Collaborate with construction accounting to combine books after construction completion.
  • Work closely with CPA firms to support the year-end audit process.
  • Work closely with property management staff on cash management, budgeting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experienced in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Excellent understanding of accounting principles
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • QuickBooks experience a plus.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gather and analyze information skillfully.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task with a willingness to be flexible and work with changing priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both oral and written.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • RealPage or similar GL accounting system software experience a plus.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 5+ years related experience preparing financial statements; income statements, balance sheets, and trial balances, and preparing and entering and adjusting journal entries
  • 5+ years of managerial experience

Residential real estate experience preferred
