GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 

The purpose of this position is to operate and repair complex mining machinery and/or equipment that require extended training and experience. Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on all quarry equipment and tools, repair defects and report corrective action to the management staff.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 

1. Operate mining equipment to include the crushing plant and rolling stock.

2. Daily visual and manual inspection of crushing equipment prior to start of operation to ensure safe, proper working conditions; repair and report corrected defects and routine maintenance performed to supervisor.

3. Calibration of crusher's C.S.S to be monitored each morning before crushing begins.

4. Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of crushing plant and other equipment while following all safety procedures.

5. Monitor the crushing process and communicate with Plant Loader Operator in case of changes throughout the shift.

6. Learn and understand operating manuals for each machine, and develop an understanding of the electrical schematics that coincide with each machine.

7. Keep detailed notes from each shift and deliver to Quarry Crew Leader before start of next shift.

8. Review and suggest modifications to work methods to increase efficiency.

9. Perform all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations and standards of quality and safety.

10. Assist co-workers with various duties as required. 

11. Use hand and power tools in various manual tasks as needed. 

12. Perform routine maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning of assigned tools, equipment, and service vehicle. 

13. Respond to after hour emergencies as required.

Additional duties include:

Attends staff and county meetings as required. Attends training, seminars, and workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills.

Requirements

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate heavy equipment;
  • Knowledge and experience with maintenance of heavy equipment;
  • Knowledge of the organization's operations, services and policies;
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing;
  • Good welding and use of cutting torch skills;
  • Good motor skills;

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • The educational requirement for this position is: Completion of high school/GED. 
  • Education may not be substituted for experience.
  • Related-experience required: 4 years.
  • Experience may not be substituted for education.

This position requires lifting:

Up to 10 pounds: over 2/3 of the time; up to 25 pounds: over 2/3 of the time; up to 50 pounds: up to 2/3 of the time; up to 100 pounds: none of the time; and, more than 100 pounds: under 1/3 of the time.


Vision Requirements:

This position has the following special vision requirements: 

Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors) Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point) Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships) Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring and object into sharp focus)
