Job Description


Position Summary:

As a float, responsibilities include temporarily covering a position, typically picking up shifts as needed. We are currently looking for floats that can be available to cover overnight, evening, and morning shifts.

Sisu offers emergency shelter, drop-in services, case management support, and housing options to youth and young adults ages 15-24 experiencing homelessness. The Youth Care Coordinator is responsible for supervising youth in the program and maintaining a safe, clean, respectful, hospitable, and professional shelter environment. The Youth Care Coordinator will have varied tasks to include supervision of clients in the shelter setting, engaging with volunteers, housekeeping, laundry and food service.


The Youth Care Coordinator is a nonexempt employee reporting to the Shelter Manager. 


Essential Functions:

  • Build and maintain consistency in delivery of service and adherence to program policies
  • Provide direct supervision of clients and continuously monitor cameras and shelter environment to ensure safety and security
  • Document daily services in HMIS, maintain accurate client files and update shift notes
  • Conduct intakes and assessments for clients as directed 
  • Collaborate with case managers to further program and client goals
  • Build rapport with clients in the program to increase participation and rates of success
  • Engage clients in activities, skill-building, games, curriculum, or conversation to further program goals and positive youth development 
  • Assist clients in planning, attaining necessities, engaging with providers, maintaining routines, meeting deadlines, and completing scheduled activities
  • Answering the phones consistently and documenting any messages that need to be transferred to other staff members
  • Use trauma-informed care techniques to create a safe environment for the youth
  • Answer program calls, texts, and emails promptly, document important information, and communicate clearly and consistently with staff, clients, and service providers 
  • Represent Sisu with professionalism and commitment to enhancing the organization’s community profile
  • Provide a positive customer service experience to clients, volunteers, service partners, staff members, neighbors, and donors
  • Lead and engage program volunteers as needed
  • Housekeeping and cleaning responsibilities. Oversee client chores and assist with cleaning dorms, offices, kitchen, storage, and resetting for the next day.
  • Promote community education projects to help increase awareness of Sisu and homeless youth missions
  • Perform other duties as assigned 


Education/Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with youth, mental health, social services or program administration a plus
  • Employment contingent on successful federal background and state fingerprint check


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Must be highly organized, able to work independently and assist in conflict resolution
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including customer service, patience, empathy and compassion
  • Effective communication skills, including active listening, writing, speaking and reading comprehension
  • Work within deadlines and scheduled timelines
  • Basic computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office applications and other computer applications
  • Ability to operate in a trauma-informed manner with young people who may be experiencing mental health issues or substance use disorders
  • This position will cross-train with Sisu Atlas YCCs.


Physical Requirements:

  • Staff is required to remain awake for the duration of their shifts
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift items over 25 pounds
  • Ability to use telephone, PC, copy machine, printer, and other office equipment
  • Ability to use washer, dryer, and other household equipment - ie. Mop, broom, etc.
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications, computer printouts, etc.
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
  • Reliable transportation required


Examples of tasks on shift:

  • Client engagement: Proactive and preventative de-escalation techniques are used to maintain a welcoming environment. Engaging with clients in conversation and inviting them to participate in tasks or activities is a priority. 
  • Daily cleaning: Bedding and donations are washed and put away with organization. All hard surfaces wiped down. Trash taken out. Clutter is cleared. Supplies organized. Sweeping and mopping. Supplies are restocked and organized.
  • Client check-in: Every client receives excellent customer service. Upon entry clients are wanded with a metal detector and their bags are placed in the bag cabinet. Every client is then checked-in and their services are tracked. Capacity is monitored. 
  • Kitchen: Assisting clients using appliances and accessing meals or snacks. Maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen by washing dishes, wiping down hard surfaces, cleaning the fridge out, taking the trash out and organizing supplies.
  • Donations: Donations are accepted with gratitude and hospitality and donors are given a receipt. Donations are then sorted, washed and put away with organization.
  • Communications: The Sisu phone is answered professionally. Shift notes are reviewed and updated every shift, Slack and email are checked to stay on the same page as a team.
  • Data Tracking: All data is tracked through Airtable and HMIS. All complete documents, intakes, and papers are filed neatly.

Job Location: On site - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States 

Position Type: hourly, non-exempt

Scheduled Hours: Varies - typically 6AM - 2 PM, 3:30 PM - 12 AM, or 12 AM - 8 AM

Position Salary: $14/hour

Sisu receives federal, state, and local funding for program operations. All employees who are paid in full or in part with federal funds must keep specific documents to demonstrate the amount of time they spent on grant activities. (2 C.F.R. Part 200.430(i)(1)) In addition, employees who are paid from state and local funds but whose salaries are used for cost sharing or matching must also keep time and effort documentation. (§ 200.430(i)(4)) Charges to federal awards for salaries and wages must be based on records that accurately reflect the work performed.
