Senior DevOps Cloud Engineer

Opportunity:

Southern Maryland IT Services, Inc is a small but growing company providing infrastructure Cloud deployment support to Federal clients. We have an opportunity to join a team providing support, with the broadest scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, the Cloud Architect has senior-level technical responsibility to closely work with the Enterprise Architecture, Applications, Infrastructure, and IT security teams to build a strategy, and develop an implementation plan to migrate NSF’s data center to the cloud.  He/she will serve as the in-house expert in advising senior management in analyzing various options and recommending technical solutions migrating the NSF IT services to the cloud.  

Position Description:

• Experience working with Terraform as it relates to the automation of Amazon Web Services (AWS), and MS Azure cloud deployments.
• Work with technology teams to prototype and prove the viability of solutions.
• Participate in daily operations and maintenance tasks to include patching, troubleshooting, and configuration management.
• Lead the design and implementation of scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant cloud infrastructure on AWS.
• Architect and implement solutions using AWS services such as EKS, EC2, S3, VPC, Lambda, RDS, and others.
• Design and implement infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform and AWS CloudFormation etc.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and testing using tools like AWS CodePipeline or Jenkins.
• Design and implement backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
• Optimize AWS resources to minimize costs while maximizing performance and scalability.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers, providing guidance on best practices and technical skills.
• Collaborate with development, operations, and other teams to troubleshoot issues and ensure smooth operations.
• Design, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters on Amazon EKS. Automate deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications on EKS.

Basic Qualifications:

·       BS degree in Computer Science or related discipline, MS degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience 

·       10+ years of overall IT experience

·       AWS Certified Solution Architect – Associate/Professional desired

·       Preferred a minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services

·       Nice to have hands-on experience with Cloud Platforms Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform

·       Experience with successful deployment on at least one major IaaS and/or PaaS service platform (OpenStack, AWS, Heroku, etc.)

·       Experience with migration of enterprise database systems such as Oracle, Sybase to IaaS and/or PaaS service platform.

·       Proven experience with DevOps practices and technologies in a software-defined infrastructure environment, delivering Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

·       Experience in architecting build and configuration management processes and procedures within both a Hybrid Cloud and Cloud deployment.

·       Experience architecting solutions for large programs around cloud architecture to include Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-Service (SaaS) solutions.

·       Extensive understanding of and experience with Data Center/Midrange Hosting management products and services
