ABOUT US:

Special Kids Special Families (SKSF) is a Colorado 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located in Colorado Springs founded in 1998 to provide respite and specialized care for children and adults with disabilities and special needs. Various programs offer community support services to families and are designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities throughout their life span.

Scope:

The Director of Foster Care is a member of the Special Kids Special Families leadership team. They oversee all aspects of the foster care program. This includes, but is not limited to, policy and procedure development and implementation, strategic planning, fiscal management, direct supervision of foster care recruitment, training, and home supervisor staff, and other administrative functions. The Director duties include, but are not limited to, completing SAFE home studies, reviewing, and approving home studies, and accepting and coordinating placements of foster children.

Duties:

  • Establish, build, and maintain rapport with children in care, foster homes, kin, and other members of the multidisciplinary team in order that optimal information gathering, and collective decision making may occur. These duties must be conducted in a manner that respects the rights and dignity of all involved.
  • Serve as the director for the Traditional and Therapeutic foster care programs.
  • Supervise all foster care program staff, including but not limited to, conducting annual performance evaluation reviews, interviewing, and onboarding, job description reviews, and on the job training.
  • Ensure foster care program staff maintain records in compliance with the State of Colorado Foster Care standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain foster care programs in compliance with all applicable state, county, and other relevant standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Submit accurate foster care billing is provided to the finance department.
  • Ensure foster care programs meet requirements for all grants and funding sources.
  • Recommend the certification, re-certification, and closures of Traditional and Therapeutic foster care homes.
  • Conduct home studies using the Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE) methodology, subject to review and approval by another SAFE Supervisor-qualified professional.
  • Review and approve SAFE home study assessments.
    Participate in mandatory rotation for "on call" to support foster families.
  • Participate in and provide input at group/individual supervision sessions to review foster children with the clinical team and the program supervisor and discuss treatment strategies and the child's progress.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of community resources and refer foster children as guided by the treatment plan.
  • Represent SKSF by acting as a liaison to local human service agencies and state level agencies, as required/assigned.
  • Participate in ongoing program evaluation to ensure program effectiveness and fiscal oversight.
  • Related duties as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Require: Bachelor’s degree in social work, child welfare or other human services field and 3 years of full-time child placement experience or master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a human services field and a minimum of one (1) year of child placement experience.
  • Masters preferred.
  • Current Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE) certification at hire.
  • Experience in a customer service leadership role or 1 year I/DD or mental health experience.
  • CPR, First Aid, & Universal Precautions within 30 days of hire.
  • Current Physical within last 2 years per State of CO rules & regulations.
  • Must be able to lift and carry children as needed – able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license, current vehicle insurance, and an acceptable driving record per SKSF standards
  • Able to drive a vehicle safely while transporting passengers; use city maps to locate unknown destinations; establish rapport and provide safe and calm environment for children; assess possible concerns during visitations and problem solve as needed.

SALARY: $65-$75year/DOE; full-time/exempt position
