Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Financial Analyst primarily focuses on tracking, reporting, and analyzing the financial performance and progress of a significant individual mining development project which is being undertaken by the Company. This role is responsible for managing all financial aspects of this project, from planning to completion. This includes setting up and maintaining the project accounting system and records, preparing, and reviewing project budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flows, verifying invoices, payments, and expenses, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and policies. Additionally, the Senior Financial Analyst will analyze variances and provide recommendations for improvement, support audits, and resolve discrepancies or issues. Overall, the role will support transparent reporting and advice to the Executive Function and be enabled to effectively execute instructions pertaining to financial management of a significant mining asset. An essential part of the role is to ensure connectivity and alignment with Finance, area managers, project controls, Estimating, Payroll, Engineering, contracts, Procurement, Site General Management and Executives. In this context the jobholder will be expected to work with all of these functions in both a support and influencing/challenging capacity. Whilst the Company has many employees, we foster a collaborative environment and a flat reporting structure.


The successful individual will join the Company as the Senior Financial Analyst (project accountant) whilst the significant mining asset is constructed over two years and eventually be mentored into the site-based Business Manager leadership role managing all financial aspects of the site as it moves from project construction into ramp up and steady state operations.



DUTIES

Manages and analyzes the collection, recording, and allocation of project costs and revenue.

Analyzes budgets and actual costs providing verbal and written reporting and advice based on results.

Communicates financial performance to program managers and project executives.

Maintain accounting documents in compliance with internal and external requirements.

Ensures compliance with GAAP.

Analyze and apply the activities being performed with respect to engineering and construction accounting methodology and company practices.

Review the required tasks and follow established written procedures and techniques to accomplish activities.

Set-up and review the project structure in ERP application.

Recognize and properly account for capital expenditures.

Work closely with the Fixed Asset Manager to ensure proper depreciation treatment is applied to new assets.

Review the cost, hours, and billing reconciliation, project close-out, project margin analysis reporting, undertake cash management for the site/project, and provide audit support.

Assist with reviewing project reports and conducting detailed analyses of results.

Prepare financial information for project reviews.

Participate in month-end project review meetings.

Liaise with the relevant Project Managers and Construction Managers regarding the actual results and booking appropriate accruals including revising costs to complete.

Be the link between the Project team and the Finance team.

Develop solid relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external clients to positively influence others and drive for results.

Identify and resolve escalations or complex issues with strong emphasis on associated patterns, trends, and root cause analysis.

If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current state driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards.

Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner.

Comply with daily, weekly, and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures on site.

Complies with and ensures compliance with policies and procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, standard operating procedures (SOP).

Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Master's degree preferred.

Preferred professional certification, such as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or the Project Management Professional (PMP).


Work Experience:

Minimum of 5 years' experience in an accounting field.

Prefer project related experience in mining or construction or heavy industry/manufacturing experience.


Knowledge Required:

Possess strong financial analysis skills.

Strong skill of working in ERP systems.

Ability to process computer data, format and generate reports.

Working knowledge of tax codes and filings.

Well organized and coordinated. Can set and stick to a month in month out calendar of activities to ensure that budgets are submitted on time and actuals are available on time.

Excellent proficiency working with Microsoft platforms, especially Excel and accounting systems.

Able to demonstrate proficiency in budgeting, invoicing, billing, report writing, etc.

Requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.

Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.

High level of attention to detail, neatness, and accuracy.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Strong relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to positively influence stakeholders.
