Job Description

Title: DINING ROOM SUPERVISOR
Reports to: General Manager
Summary of Position:
Oversee and coordinate the planning, organizing, training and leadership necessary to achieve stated objectives in sales, costs, employee retention, guest service and satisfaction, food quality, cleanliness and sanitation at Jonathan’s Ogunquit while assisting and reporting directly to the General Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Understand (sometimes create,) follow and ensure all staff in the restaurant complies with all new policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines and training programs.
  • Ensure that all guests feel welcome & safe and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times.
  • Retain a professional relationship with all local businesses, vendors and especially local hotels, motels and inns. Communicate all specials, business hours, promotions, changes, modifications, etc. in an expedient manner.
  • Achieve company objectives in sales, service, quality, appearance of facility and sanitation and cleanliness through training of employees and creating a positive, productive working environment.
  • Control cash and other receipts by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures in accordance with restaurant policies and procedures; complete end of night checklists each night and complete all nightly credit card processing, cash deposits, etc.
  • Make employment and termination decisions consistent with General Manager guidelines for approval or review for servers, bartenders, runners, hosts, bussers, etc.
  • Fill in where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations; when needed, assist in bussing tables, serving, bartending, expediting, hosting, etc. to ensure all departments run smoothly.
  • Prepare all required paperwork, including forms, reports and schedules in an organized and timely manner.
  • Schedule labor as required by anticipated business activity while ensuring that all positions are staffed when and as needed and labor cost objectives are met.
  • Ensure that all equipment in dining rooms, waitstations and bar areas is kept clean and kept in excellent working condition through personal inspection; ensure all front of the house employees are adhering to their daily checklists/ sidework.
  • “Own your area!” The three dining rooms and lounge will be your space. Ensure it is cleaned and maintained properly. Ensure that there are always appropriate decorations, flowers, etc. in your area. Follow through in upstairs ballroom space when needed in lieu of General Manager/ Upstairs Supervisor.
  • Ensure products are received in correct unit count and condition and deliveries are performed in accordance with the restaurant’s receiving policies and procedures; work with General Manager and Bartender on all front of the house and beverage purchases. Ensure that all front of the house inventory is kept in an organized and clean manner at all times.
  • Oversee and ensure that restaurant policies on employee performance appraisals are followed and completed on a timely basis.
  • Be knowledgeable of restaurant policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair and consistent corrective action for any and all violations of company policies, rules and procedures.
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of the restaurant, employees and guests.
  • Attend Mandatory weekly management meetings / Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings and plan for training scenarios and agendas for staff meeting
  • Hold daily “pre-meal” meetings for front of the house staff; coordinate with kitchen manager, GM, owner for tastings, etc.
  • Learn proper and safe way to close and secure building, be prepared to do so 5-6 nights a week
Qualifications:

  • Be able to communicate with email with G-Suite / Google and be able to use all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Have knowledge of service and food and beverage, generally involving at least three years of front-of-the-house operations and/or management positions.
  • Possess excellent basic math skills and have the ability to operate a cash register & POS system.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 10 hours).Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Be able to communicate with staff and guests in the most professional manner in all written and verbal channels.
  • Must have the stamina to work up to 50 hours a week in the summer, if needed.
