Job Description

J.D. McCarty Center is looking for a Speech Language Pathologist to join our team. This person is responsible for providing evaluations and therapy to developmentally disabled patients, birth-21, with a variety of medical conditions. They will determine the needs of our patients by using speech and language evaluations, augmentative communication evaluations, oral motor assessments, and hearing screenings. Determines the need for therapy and makes appropriate recommendations.  Administers and interprets varied assessment protocol and completes written summary of findings, based upon nature of evaluation. 

Salary ranging from: $66,000 to $80,000 and will be based on experience.

TASKS:

Evaluation - Completes comprehensive and varied evaluations appropriate for needs of the patient and context including, but not limited to speech and language evaluations, augmentative communication evaluations, oral motor assessment, and hearing screenings. Determines the need for therapy and makes appropriate recommendations.  Administers and interprets varied assessment protocol and completes written summary of findings, based upon nature of evaluation within established time frames as specified in departmental and agency policies and procedures.   Provide evaluations including speech/language, dysphagia, sensory feeding, augmentative/alternative communication (including ordering AAC), fluency, or voice disorders for patients with developmental disabilities.

Therapy - Schedule therapy sessions, develop, and provide individual and /or group therapy sessions on a consistent basis per schedule, and document course of treatment within daily progress notes, evaluation reports and additional required documentation in accordance with established practice procedures as outlined within agency policies and in compliance with ASHA Preferred Practice Patterns for the Profession of Speech-Language Pathology.  Determine appropriate frequency and continuation of services appropriate for needs of individual patients.   Provides services including speech/language therapy, dysphagia treatment, sensory feeding therapy, augmentative/alternative communication therapy/trials, fluency, or voice disorders for patients with developmental disabilities. Provides onsite or teletherapy treatment for school contracts, as requested. Collaborate with other disciplines (OT, PT, ABA, Audiology, etc) as needed.

Documentation - Complete required documentation and patient billing in the electronic health record. Prepare, sign and maintain documentation, (evaluation/reauthorization reports, staffing notes, daily progress notes, patient billing, accountability records) that reflect the nature of the services provided.  Submit documentation within agency prescribed time frames using designated forms and reporting formats and procedures designated within departmental and agency policies. Closely maintains authorization tracking to reduce any lapse in services for patient care.

Consultation/Education - Consults with physicians and other health care providers in offering professional input and recommendations concerning patient care and follow-up through timely entry of patient documentation, as well as documented phone and direct contact with other health care providers.  Provides training and education to families, students, staff, and other health care providers pertaining to communication and language development, language/speech disorders, dysphagia, augmentative/alternative communication and closely related areas in accordance with Preferred Practice Patterns for the Profession of Speech-Language Pathology and departmental policies and procedures.

Goal Development - Establish functional individualized therapy goals and objectives from assessment findings with consideration of the needs and desires of the patient and family. Develop goals/objectives and submit within prescribed time parameters and periodically review for appropriateness and revise, as necessary in accordance with established agency policies and procedures.

Administrative/additional - Supports development of programs and services of the department. Assists in completion of quality assurance programs and monitoring, purchase requisitions, and other agency required documentation within established time frames as noted in agency policies.  Assumes miscellaneous additional duties and projects pertaining to department or agency operation, as requested. 

Outpatient Services - Provides scheduled outpatient services including direct services and teletherapy.  Contacts, schedules, and provides authorized outpatient services, assuring completion of required documentation within designated time parameters.  Provides outpatient services on a regularly scheduled basis in accordance with established schedules and in accordance with the ASHA code of Ethics and established practice patterns for the profession of speech-language pathology.

Continuing Education - Increases professional growth and development through participation in 1 or more continuing education training activities.  Gains familiarity with newly acquired materials and equipment.  Demonstrates satisfactory completion of orientation for new employee SLP staff as well as required departmental in-services and trainings. 

Job Requirements:

  • Must maintain all current certifications including ASHA and SLP License.
  • Have strong time management skills and the ability to be flexible for patient needs.
  • Physical demands may include assisting with lifting or positioning clients with disabilities. Sitting or stooping on the floor for extended periods of time.  Standing or bending over repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Will serve a 1-year probationary period.
  • References required.

About the J.D. McCarty Center:

J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, ABA therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acre s campus includes an on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in-patient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs.
