Job Summary: We seek a dedicated and compassionate Pediatric Speech Language Pathology Assistant to join our private practice. The ideal candidate will work closely with licensed Speech-Language Pathologists to provide vital support in assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication and language disorders in pediatric patients. This role is crucial in helping children achieve their communication goals and improve their overall quality of life.
Responsibilities:
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Assist in conducting initial assessments, reevaluations, and screenings to determine pediatric patients' communication disorders and speech-language difficulties.
- Gather and document relevant patient information, including medical history, developmental milestones, and previous therapy records.
Treatment Planning and Implementation:
- Collaborate with licensed Speech-Language Pathologists to develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and goals.
- Implement therapy sessions as prescribed, using appropriate techniques and exercises to improve communication skills in children.
Patient Interaction:
- Build rapport with pediatric patients and their families to create a comfortable and trusting therapeutic environment.
- Engage children in therapy activities and exercises to facilitate speech and language development.
Progress Monitoring:
- Document patient progress and outcomes accurately, maintaining organized records and reports.
- Provide regular feedback to the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist regarding patient performance and adjustments to treatment plans.
- Have consistent communication with caregivers and their families regarding the patient's progress in therapy
Therapy Materials and Resources:
- Prepare and maintain therapy materials, equipment, and resources needed for sessions.
- Stay updated on the latest speech-language therapy techniques and tools, incorporating them into therapy as appropriate.
- Have monthly activity suggestions for parents and caregivers.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and provide guidance on home-based exercises and activities.
- Attend team meetings and participate in case discussions to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Attend monthly Materials Meet Ups to create materials for treatment and connect with teammates who are also new to the field
Compliance and Ethics:
- Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in speech-language pathology.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Communication Disorders
- State licensure or Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) certification.
- Prior experience working with pediatric populations is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with children and their families.
- Proficient in using therapy tools and equipment.
- A commitment to continuing education and professional development in the field.
Working Conditions:
- This is a full-time position
- Therapy is Monday through Thursday, with Fridays utilized for make-up visits/paperwork and meetings with the supervisor.
- Hours are 9 am to 5 pm
- The role may involve travel to different practice locations, ABA Centers, and Daycares.
