Job Description
Food Runner
Summary: The food runner is responsible for ensuring each guest’s food order is delivered promptly and without mistakes. This position will organize food tickets, communicate with culinary team members to ensure each course is distributed and ready in order, and deliver the completed meals to the guests in the dining area and at the bar.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in preparation of kitchen opening and closing procedures
- Completes assigned side-work duties (opening, closing, ongoing)
- Follows all instructions from expeditor
- Sorts and organizes incoming food tickets
- Maintains orders according to each table and food ticket
- Ensures each order is prepared to the restaurant and guest’s food specifications
- Garnishes and prepares dishes for food presentation as needed
- Promptly delivers each course as it is prepared to the correct table and in order
- Communicates clearly any additional orders or needs the guest may have to kitchen manager or expeditor
- Answers guest’s questions or listens to their concerns
- Removes guest’s dirty dishes and utensils and delivers to dish room
- Maintains cleanliness in assigned station and or stations
- Follows all sanitation procedures in accordance with state regulations
- Maintains and ensures compliance of all policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications
- High School or equivalent education required
- At least 18 years of age
- No prior experience required
- Food Handler Certification required or as mandated by state law
Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to speak and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace
- Requires good communication skills
- Possesses basic computational ability
- Possesses basic knowledge of banquet set-up
Physical Demands
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Temperature indoors is moderate and controlled by facility environmental systems; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10 degrees F) and kitchens (+110 degrees F), possibly for one hour or more
- Must be able to stand and exert well-pace mobility for up to 6 hours in length
- Must have the ability to bend, squat and frequently lift 50 lbs on a regular and continuing basis, including but not limited to, pots and pans and trays of food or food items
- Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. occasionally
- Must have the ability to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks
- Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
- Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and co-workers
- The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level
- Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception
- Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment
