Job Description

Title: Museum Technician                                                                       Reports to: Curator/ Museum Director

Pay Status: Non-Exempt                                                                      Salary: 40,000 - $45,000 annually

Summary: A full time non-exempt position for a detail-oriented person working with the American Numismatic Association’s Money Museum. This position will work under the supervision of the museum curator to examine the uncatalogued collections within the museum storage areas and sort them into a: objects to be added to the permanent collection, b: objects to be transferred to the Education department, or c: objects to be dispersed through eBay sales.  The incumbent will catalog objects to be kept in the Museum into the PastPerfect database, working closely with the Collections Manager for data entry training and to ensure consistency and accuracy of the records.  They will also keep a record using an excel spreadsheet of all objects transferred out of the museum collection.

Additional duties will include assisting with the maintenance of the exhibit areas, assisting with the front desk, visitor tours and answering inquiries. This is a salaried non-exempt position. Regular hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday thru Friday. Some additional hours on evenings and weekend may be required for special events.

Skills and Qualifications:

·       BA or equivalent experience

·       Knowledge of numismatic collections and collecting. Preference given for knowledge of conservation and collection management

·       Strong organizational skills

·       Excellent oral and written communication skills

·       Computer and data-entry proficiency

·       Familiarity with museum collections and exhibit standards a plus

Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Organizes and Catalogs uncatalogued objects into the PastPerfect database 

·       Sorts through objects in storage to determine whether they should go to the Museum, Education or eBay sales

·       Participates in the Museum educational programing

·       Assists with the maintenance, installation and tear down of museum exhibits-must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 30 lbs.

Secondary Responsibilities:

·       Assists with public inquiries

·       Assists at public functions (museum openings, conventions, mini-seminars) as part of the ANA’s public image

·       Assist in maintaining the museum environmental monitoring system

·       Some travel may be required
