Lower School Junior Kindergarten Assistant Teacher (Alexandria, VA)

St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School (SSSAS) of Alexandria, VA is looking to hire a part-time (daily 8:30am-12:30pm) Junior Kindergarten Assistant Teacher who wants to make a real difference in the lives of our youngest students. The Junior Kindergarten Assistant Teacher will support two Junior Kindergarten classrooms, each led by two co-lead teachers. Candidates will need to have a degree in elementary education or the equivalent.

Assistant teachers will:

• Undertake teaching assignments designated by the classroom teacher; assistant teachers should have the skills and confidence to work with students on phonics, reading and writing workshop, mathematical problem solving, and other classroom approaches and programs such as Responsive Classroom. Assistant teachers should be up-to-date with current educational techniques and approaches.
• Assist lead teachers with preparing for parent conferences (as needed).
• Be flexible in the classroom with anticipating student needs as they arise.
• Teach whole group/ small group/ or individual students as requested by the lead teacher.
• Escort children to and pick up from specials as requested by the lead teacher.
• Assume lead responsibilities in the classroom if the lead teacher is absent or off campus.
• Take an active role in daily classroom activities.
