Position Summary:

The Fire System Service Helper is responsible for performing basic service technician's tasks, including testing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing fire alarms and clean agent systems. This position is also responsible for assisting employees that are more experienced.

Essential Functions:

Perform skilled labor duties related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment to include but not limited to:

  • Diagnose problems and perform installation, service, and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites
  • Verify system functional performance to ensure proper operations according to contract requirements including testing, calibrating verify system and peripheral device operations as per preventative maintenance schedule
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals
  • Keep abreast of changes and new developments in product and preventive maintenance techniques
  • Follow established safety standards at all times
  • Move and install heavy equipment when needed
  • Must be able to operate all hand tools, large pipe bending tools, hydraulic or mechanical benders, as well as other equipment typically used for commercial electrical work

Experience and Education Required:

  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in the English language at a minimum eighth (8th) grade level
  • Mathematics skills sufficient to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and fractions

Preferred:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a construction job site environment and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions or inside conditions.
  • While performing this job's duties, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee may be occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
  • Often exposed to loud sounds and noise levels as well as very bright or inadequate lighting conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • Regular exposure to dirt, hazardous equipment, wiring, and underground and/or elevated heights.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ability to wear company approved Personal Protective Equipment per local, state, federal, or OSHA regulations.
  • The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to perform physical duties listed above for extended periods.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type, Expected Hours of Work, and Travel:

  • Requires the ability to report to job sites throughout Florida; locations vary depending on the individual's home location.
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary but equate to 40 hours per week. May be requested to work overtime, nights, and weekends.
