Position Overview: The Analytical Sciences Technician performs a multifaceted role encompassing calibration and maintenance of various equipment alongside supporting activities in the Analytical Services Laboratory. This position involves on-the-job training to handle laboratory duties, sample preparation, and analytical instrumentation operations. Reporting to the Analytical Services Laboratory Manager and coordinating daily tasks through the Chemistry Section Supervisor, the role combines electro-mechanical/calibration skills with analytical chemistry responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct calibration and maintenance of pressure, temperature, and vacuum gauges, as well as other electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Perform sample preparation, bench/wet chemistry, and data recording in the laboratory.
  • Receive and manage samples and materials from various departments.
  • Adhere to SOPs for sample preparation and analytical tasks.
  • Initiate training on analytical instrumentation.
  • Fulfill other duties as directed by the Laboratory Manager and/or Chemistry Section Supervisor.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or Trade School with a strong math background.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment is preferred but not required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Windows-based PC systems, including database management, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong teamwork, mathematical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions for sample handling, management, and test method compliance.
  • Proficient with or quick learning ability for software and applications used for chemical tests and analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Type:

  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical ability to stand, walk, push, pull, twist, reach overhead, climb, and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Visual accommodation necessary for reading instructions/materials and computer usage.
  • Hearing ability required for communication and monitoring sounds in a laboratory setting.

Work Conditions:

  • The role involves a combination of laboratory environment work and various project sites, exposing the employee to typical environmental conditions associated with analytical chemistry laboratories and laboratory testing devices.
