Position Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and skilled Sr Manager - Manufacturing Systems Technology. Reporting to the IT Leader - Supply Chain/R&D, this person will be a key partner and resource as we develop and deploy digital manufacturing systems & tools.

This position will work within IT and the end-to-end Supply Chain to create the vision and Technology architecture to support the enterprise with the convergence of IT and OT at our four manufacturing locations. This new position will help develop and implement a multi-year Smart Manufacturing systems agenda embracing Industry 4.0 and newly developed precision agriculture.

This role will be based at one of the following plant locations and support all 4 manufacturing sites.

  • Lawton, MI
  • North East, PA
  • Grandview, WA

What You'll Do:

This position will require you to understand all aspects of the organization's operations and technology opportunities in support of harvesting/manufacturing improvement efforts. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Be a key leader in Welch's overall transformation by investigation, development, approval, and implementation of Industry 4.0 and Operational Technology (OT) solutions to support our growth strategies
  • Build and Lead a matrix team (COE) of engineering and IT professionals in the development of OT enterprise standards and solutions
  • Design, implement, and support enterprise solutions for production floor automation and building management systems which integrate sensors, PLC, SCADA, MES and ERP systems to improve plant performance and get timely actionable information
  • Develop process improvement projects in conjunction with Corporate, Production and Engineering personnel
  • Performs root cause analysis of manufacturing system incidents
  • Keeps abreast of recent technology alternatives and makes recommendations regarding the applicability of alternative approaches to the manufacturing IT landscape

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering or equivalent work experience with the industry. An equivalent combination of education and experience that proves competence in role may be considered.
  • 7+ years' experience working within IT/OT, preferably at both plant/enterprise level.
  • Experience designing and implementing sensors, PLC's, SCADA, and MES solutions.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time, primarily domestic.
  • Strong business level communication skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of manufacturing systems best practices.
  • Ability and desire to roll up your sleeves to do all things necessary to meet the operational and strategic needs of the business.
  • Ability to explain complex technology in easy-to-understand ways.
