Job Description

As an EMT/Paramedic you will assist the research team in conducting clinical trials. The clinical support staff member is responsible for performing study procedures, overseeing study subjects during in-patient or outpatient visits, collecting and recording clinical research data in the source documents. In the event of a medical emergency, individual will take appropriate measures in accordance with Basic Life Support (BLS) standards.

The Job

  • Establish good rapport with study subjects during in-patient stays or outpatient visits
  • Clinical data collection such as: vital signs, ECG recording, subject height and weight, etc.
  • Laboratory specimen collection, processing and shipment (as needed)
  • Able to identify dysrhythmias during study participant Telemetry Monitoring
  • Dispense concomitant medications to study subjects during in-patient stays
  • Dispense meals to study subjects during in-house visits
  • Complete Shift Report at the end of their shift and transfer responsibilities to the next licensed staff (i.e. RNs, LPNs, ARNPs, or another Paramedic)
  • Address any conflict between subjects during overnight visits. Document the incident in the Shift Report. Alert Operations Manager and Coordinator as required
  • In the event of a medical emergency, take appropriate measures to ensure safety of the subject. Inform Medical Director or Investigator as soon as possible
  • Review and sign electrocardiograms and communicate immediately to Principal Investigator in case of major findings
  • Record data collected into source documents and address data corrections/clarifications in a timely manner

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be licensed medical personnel (i.e. EMT/Paramedic) and be, at minimum, certified in Basic Life Support (BLS). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) and be computer literate with accurate typing skills
  • A bilingual person in Spanish and English is preferred
