Job Description

Job Purpose

In collaboration with the Student Support Services Manager and the School Principal, the School Counselor provides a comprehensive school counseling program for all students at the site, which aligns with EAGLE’s mission to promote academic achievement, social/emotional development, character formation to all scholars. The School Counselor also provides intervention services with children and families that may include assessment, individual short-term or crisis counseling, group instruction, support groups, and home visitation.

Essential Responsibilities
 

  • Identifies and assesses the relevant factors involved in the problems of students referred because of learning, emotional, behavioral, social, physical, economic, cultural, or family difficulties
  • Provides information and consultation to teachers, administrators, family members, and significant others in regard to the intervention plan for the child receiving services
  • Remains readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity
  • Establishes a line of communication between the school and the home
  • Provides guidance for teachers and student teachers in dealing with student learning or personal problems
  • Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality through complying with FERPA guidelines.
  • Works collaboratively and in partnership with the Student Support Services Manager, 504, Individual Education Plan (IEP) teams, parent/teacher conferences, and student information meetings by providing social/emotional data
  • Utilizes learning activities that are suitable to students and instructional goals
  • Monitors social emotional progress when it impacts academic progress in alignment with state and district standards
  • Develops and implements a guidance program that aligns with the Arizona School Counseling Program
  • Works with outside behavioral health agencies to provide individual and/or family support related to social/emotional needs as needed
  • Utilizes community and district resources to meet the individual needs of scholars
  • Serves as a liaison between school district and community agencies
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the roles/responsibilities of community agencies
  • Functions as a credible resource by offering a variety of options and strategies
  • Assesses crisis situations and responds appropriately to school and student needs
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned

Qualifications
 

  • Current Arizona Guidance Counselor Certification (K-12)
  • Master’s degree in Counseling (MA), Clinical Social Work (CSW), or Social Work (MSW) from an accredited college or university
  • Licensed in Social Work by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (LMSW/LCSW) or Licensed as a Professional Counselor by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners
  • 3- 5 years of experience preferred
  • Experience working with scholars and families in low-income urban communities
  • Demonstrates ability in working with diverse populations (ELL, Special Education and Gifted)
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the unique challenges facing Title I students and their families.
  • Exceptional MS Excel Skills and strong skills in MS Office and Outlook
