Stormwater Engineer

Hazen and Sawyer has an exceptional opportunity for a Stormwater Engineer to join our Atlanta, GA office to engage in the planning, design, and construction administration of local and national stormwater management, green infrastructure, and watershed protection projects. This is a design-oriented role with supplemental stormwater activities such as flood modeling, stream restoration, and watershed planning. Design projects include stand-alone stormwater projects as well as multi-discipline civil site projects that include a stormwater component.

Responsibilities include serving as a lead project engineer, interfacing with Hazen clients, mentoring younger staff, and managing the preparation of plans, specifications, and reports.

Candidate should be proficient in the design and permitting of site plans, drainage studies, stormwater management systems, and erosion control. Specific experience in stormwater design and permitting for large-scale commercial and industrial site improvement projects is advantageous.

Candidate should be experienced in the use of Civil 3D software for the design of grading, drainage, and stormwater management and in GIS, open-channel, and closed pipe modeling software for the analysis, evaluation, and planning of stormwater designs.

Candidate should be able to coordinate with regulatory officials as well as in-house design disciplines (Structural, Geotechnical, Architectural, etc.) to ensure a cohesive project design. Occasional local and regional travel may be required.

Minimum professional qualifications:

• 10 years of Stormwater engineering experience, including the design and regulatory permitting of site plans, drainage studies, stormwater control systems, green infrastructure, and erosion control for construction.
• PE License in the state of Georgia or ability to obtain through comity within 6 months.
• Experience preparing construction drawings and specifications to meet the requirements of the Georgia Stormwater Management Manual.
• Experience in permitting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Georgia EPD.
• Able to easily move around active construction site safely and effectively.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Preferred professional qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience leading stormwater infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with site survey practices, shop drawing review, and construction administration activities.
• 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including estimating workloads and developing project schedules.
• Self-motivated, highly-organized, and possess excellent writing and communication skills.
• Entrepreneurship and a strong willingness to grow Hazen’s stormwater team in Georgia.

Educational requirements:

• Bachelor of Science in civil, environmental, or biosystems engineering.
