Job Description

Join our dynamic team as a dedicated Phlebotomist Accessioner!

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to work closely with our laboratory staff, providing essential support in specimen receipt, identification, processing, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

The working hours for this position are as follows:

  • Monday through Friday: 09:00 AM - 5:30 PM
  • At least 1 Saturday per month: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Responsibilities:

  • Process and handle blood and biological specimens according to established protocols. Verify that tests are correctly ordered and ensure that all necessary patient information for billing is accurately entered.
  • Collect Covid specimens.
  • Phlebotomy experience is preferred but not required. Please note that this position does require employees to be trained in performing phlebotomy.
  • Perform duties as a laboratory assistant, including maintaining clinical and professional competencies in accordance with department policies, procedures, and lab protocols.
  • Contact clients to confirm patient orders in cases of ambiguous orders.
  • Review the Pending Order List on a daily basis to ensure timely processing and testing of patient samples. The Phlebotomist Accessioner will investigate and solve any delays in specimen processing, which may involve contacting appropriate reference laboratory client services and reference lab liaisons.
  • Print and review monthly updates from reference labs. The Phlebotomist Accessioner will check these updates (compared to current requirements) for test updates, including test code changes, test name changes, accepted required amount charges, and send requests for necessary updates to the IT department.
  • Assist with other duties as requested by the Laboratory Operations Manager.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with strong data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience is preferred but not required. Employees will be trained in performing phlebotomy.
  • Ability to check insurance eligibility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent listening skills and the ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Strong work ethic and dependability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and willingness to take on new tasks of varying difficulty.
  • Experience as a lab assistant, specimen processor, or relevant lab experience is preferred.
  • Ability to build rapport with laboratory and nursing home staff.
  • Familiarity with medical software and equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Maintain a clean and neat appearance and professional attitude.
