Job Description
Summary/Objective
Firefighter performs specialized work in the prevention and suppression of fires, rescue and EMS. Work includes combating, extinguishing and preventing fires and assisting in maintaining all Fire District equipment and apparatus.
Essential Functions

· Abides by the chain of command during any and all functions related to District Operations and functions.
· Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls as assigned.
· Treats and transports sick and or hurt patients as an EMS provider on an ALS service.
· Actively participates in extinguishing fires and performing lifesaving duties.
· Conducts and participates in fire, EMS and rescue related training.
· Maintains equipment and apparatus in a state of readiness.
· Upholds community education and risk reduction through prevention and safety efforts.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment
Ability to work in difficult and dangerous environmental conditions including: toxic and chemical fumes, smoke, heights, extreme heat and cold, darkness, confined spaces, loud noises, violent situations, visually disturbing situations. Ability to perform medical care in dynamic and everchanging environments.
Physical Demands
Ability to perform strenuous activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling, etc. which requires cardiovascular strength and endurance as well as good upper and lower body strength for long periods of time. Often includes: running, walking, crouching, kneeling, crawling, climbing, standing and sitting for long periods of time, moving heavy objects, operating equipment and wearing assigned protective clothing and equipment. Regular lifting during emergency situations.
Travel Required
Daily travel occurs as a part of standard operations; however, occasional travel related to training or maintenance may be required.
Required Skills/Abilities

Required Experience, Certifications/Licenses & Education
· Valid Class D Minnesota Driver’s License
· 18 year of age or older
· Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board (MFSCB) Firefighter II Certification (Pro-Board and International Fire Service Accreditation Council (IFSAC) Firefighter II Certifications are also acceptable)
· EMS license from the State of Minnesota (EMT, Paramedic).
· Current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Certification
· Minnesota Board of Fire Training and Education (MBFTE) Firefighter License. Within 12 months of hire
· Successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) in the last 12 months of application deadline.
Preferred Experience, Certifications/Licenses & Education
· Experience as a firefighter for a fire service organization.
· Associates of Arts, or higher, in Fire Science, Paramedicine, Fire Administration or related field.
· Experience as an EMS provider for an ambulance service organization.
