Job Title:  Pharmacy Technician/Non-Certified or Certified

Schedule: 3 or 4 days per week 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and rotating Saturdays 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Working hours per week: 36-40

 

Job purpose

Under the general direction and supervision of the Pharmacist or Pharmacy Director, this Pharmacy Tech functions as an integral member of a patient’s care team by assisting the pharmacist in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care while working at the top of the technician license capability. All activities are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and are carried out in the highest achievable level of competence in a manner demonstrating concern and consideration.  Position will work within the scope of their certification, training, and experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

 High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Certified Pharmacy Technician national certification and State of Montana Pharmacy Technician License is preferred; Tech-in-training acceptable; will also consider candidates who are committed to become a Tech-in-Training and eventually obtain full Pharmacy Technician Certification.

Those with medical background are encouraged to apply.  One to two years prior experience in a pharmacy or healthcare environment is preferred.

Ability to obtain Certification within a reasonable time frame.

Ability to prioritize workload.

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Ability to perform moderately difficult technical and clerical work.

Ability to make arithmetic calculations.

Skill in handling cash and voucher control.

Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to ask questions and elicit required information.

Ability to communicate and work effectively with other staff.

Skill in computer operations and type 40 wpm.

Ability to work with pharmacy software and basic Microsoft Office programs.

Proven understanding of performing confidential work, (HIPAA compliance).

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work under pressure, independently and as a team member.

Have and maintain a valid Montana’s driver license.

Strong work ethic, positive, caring, knowledge of cultural diversity and social determinants of health, team oriented. May be requested to perform functions relevant to the position but not listed above.


 

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Role: these duties are the essential functions and are not all-inclusive of all duties that the incumbent performs.

· Reports to work on time and as scheduled.

· Assists the pharmacist in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care, communicating information effectively

· Prepares prescriptions for dispensing by accurately entering all patient and prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.

· Troubleshoots third-party rejections, communicating and resolving issues.

· Accurately fills Rx paying careful attention to specific programs and regulations (e.g. 340b).

· Prepares prescription for dispensing by accurately filling Rx vial with correct drug and proper labels.

· Orders drug inventory and supplies with professional guidance from the Pharmacist, following established procedures for 340b and retail inventory.

· Maintains and files records of dispensing and receiving (invoices).

· Performs inventory control and management, including perpetual inventory counts and 340b audits.

· Removes or recommends removal of slow, unneeded, or outdated drugs from stock; prepares for return or disposal.

· Provides excellent customer service on the phone or in person, always verifying patient identity.

· Helps maintain orderly, clean environment in the department, including cleanliness of pharmacy stock and supplies.

· Maintains an attitude and philosophy consistent with GVHC standards.

· Performs other duties as needed and directed.

 

Working Environment

Work is mainly performed in an office/clinic setting with computer/phone work and moderate noise. Standing, bending, sitting, lifting, stooping required. You may be required to travel to different clinic locations.

Practices within the scope of education, training, and personal capabilities.

Follows federal, state and local legal guidelines; follows license criteria when licensure applies.

Maintains confidentiality, HIPAA, & OSHA compliance.
