Director of Safety

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Director of Safety.

This position is responsible for developing and leading all safety related programs for cooperative employees. This individual will work to ensure our programs support a culture of safety first for all employees. The successful candidate will have experience leading initiatives, setting and achieving goals, and developing policies and programs that reflect industry best practices.

The successful applicant must possess a strong ability to engage internal and external audiences through interpersonal skills. Candidates should be highly motivated, detail oriented and organized. This position will report to the Vice President of Operations and work out of Lancaster office. Travel to our two outer offices and field presence in our 24-county territory is required.

Qualifications

• An associate degree related to safety management is required. A minimum of ten years of equivalent experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
• Certification as a Loss Control Professional must be obtained within two years of holding the position. Certification as a Journeyman Lineman is required.
• A minimum of ten years’ practical experience in safety management or line work in a utility, of which a minimum of five years of supervisory experience is required.
• Must possess knowledge of all types of line construction, maintenance, and service functions associated with plant facilities. Must be familiar with safety rules and regulations and first aid practices to be able to train personnel. Basic knowledge of cooperative operation required.
• Must be able to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• High-level of effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and training others.
