CNC Machinist- Programmer

Title: CNC Machinist Level 3

Reporting to: CNC Machine Shop Manager

Direct reports: None

Classification: Non- Exempt hourly

Job Summary:

Machinist level 3 are required to set up, program, and operate machine tools such as CNC lathes, CNC milling machines, and grinders, to machine metallic and nonmetallic work pieces by performing the necessary steps according to drawings provided by the company. Machinists 3 are required to have sufficient experience or familiarity with the quoting process and part routing and planning. Prior experience with Mastercam and Solid Works and equipment used by Sac EDM & Waterjet, Inc. are preferred to allow for easy training. Machinists 3 should also have experience with CMM and traditional inspection techniques.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner

• Reads and interprets blueprints

• Uses gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements

• Uses precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as lathe, vertical milling machine, drill press, hydraulic press, chop saw, and band saw.

• Fabricates and shapes parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal, plastics, and composites

• Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures, and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines

• Must be able to write and edit G-code programs

• Recognizes, deploys, and properly uses inserts, fixtures, and tooling

• Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment

• Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend change or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production

• Perform first article and in-process inspections

• Mentor and train less experienced machinists

• Utilizes and abides by safety procedures

• Complies with all quality policies, specifications, regulations, and instructions

• Must be able to follow AS9100 standards: CAR’s, PAR’s, NCR’s, Preventive Maintenance, Control of Records, Control of Testing, Measuring and Monitoring Equipment, and Process Control.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Graduate (GED) required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Production environment where proper PPE must be worn while working with equipment.
• Manufacturing environment which temperatures drastically change from season to season.
• Work week can be 40+ hours
• Fast paced environment
• Working around different chemicals, including but not limited to lubricants, solvents, batteries, cleaning fluids, paints etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Environment where the following exposures exist: loud noise, bloodborne and airborne pathogens, infectious materials, fumes, toxic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, non-weather wet and/or humid conditions, etc.
