Cubic Mission Communications And Computing (MC2) is a business unit of CMPS and provides a unique opportunity that focuses on your test engineering technician depth and electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, but exposes you to all facets of the product lifecycle including product's design transition to production, low-rate initial production (LRIP) testing and debug, full rate production (FRP) testing and debug support and product line close out. Cubic MC2 is looking for well-rounded test engineer technicians who are self-starters, work effectively within teams, and willing to take on challenging tasks to their conclusions in a fast pace and dynamic environment.

Job Summary:

Works with the engineering staff (Operations or Design), on activities related to the development, construction, and production testing of deliverable products, equipment, assemblies, subsystems and systems and some developmental products. Selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, or layouts and ensures compliance with objectives and requirements. Performs complex electrical test engineering technician assignments following designated standards and procedures. Duties require application of engineering principles, theory, and techniques as a test engineering technician. Performs various factory test engineering technician work related to product transition to early production testing and debug, low-rate initial production (LRIP) testing and debug, full rate production (FRP) testing and debug support and product line close out. Interfaces with engineering (Operations or Design), procurement, quality, and manufacturing by providing technical test and support. May provide training and/or technical and function direction to manufacturing labor (test or assembly) as well as technical support staff and related departments. This position typically works under general supervision and direction.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Acquires, specifies, sets up and operates all electronic test equipment in the performance of independent problem resolution.

Contacts personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate assigned work.

Reads and interprets complex notes, schematics, parts lists and wiring diagrams.

Assembles or installs equipment or parts requiring complex wiring, soldering, or connecting.

Diagnoses, locates, troubleshoots, and repairs malfunctions on production and prototype equipment and troubleshoots down to the component level.

Ensures complex level computer and peripheral set-up, interconnection and computer and peripheral maintenance.

Gathers, maintains, and interprets engineering data including tests and analysis data, etc.

Assists in design modifications by compiling, interpreting and presenting data related to designs, specifications, and materials pertinent to equipment under design and test.

Develops information concerning previous failures and modifications.

Determines methods, procedures and solutions to resolve problems found during development.

Generates test data and reports utilizing advanced computer skills to include Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio, reviewing boards with tools such as Altium, PADS, or ORCAD, and reviewing mechanical designs with Solidworks eDrawings viewer, Solidworks Composer, or Solidworks.

Trains and/or leads technicians as required.

In a limited role provides work direction and schedules work as needed.

Works with software and system personnel in performance of integration and testing of systems.

Works with customers, program management and engineers to develop, field and demonstrate systems.

Recommends modifications to specifications in association with engineering staff on research and development tasks.

Develops, constructs, and integrates major units, devices, equipment, sub-systems; conducts tests or experiments; analyzes results and redesigns or modifies equipment to improve performance; and reports results.

Conducts complex technical testing and independent troubleshooting of boards, sub-systems, and systems.

Performs on-site or in-house servicing, repair and/or installation and integration of company products.

Provides, in a limited role, technical support to customers on operational or maintenance aspects of system equipment.

Serves, in a limited role, as customer contact on technical and service related problems.

Assumes additional responsibilities as needed. Serves as team lead and assumes additional leadership responsibilities as needed to solve problems or develop improved processes.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Two-year college degree, or military technical training or equivalent, plus a minimum of eight years experience preferably at a Senior Technician level. Direct electronic experience in digital and analog circuitry principles. Computer skills (related information technology devices, operating systems, and drivers). Knowledge and use of software packages that support hardware subsystem and system level builds, integration, and testing. May be required to work weekends and holidays to support customer needs. Ability to understand and apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques. Ability to read, write and interpret technical materials. Ability to use hand tools, test equipment, computer, and hardware/software diagnostic tools. Must be familiar with ISO 9001 including handling ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) susceptible items. Ability to communicate effectively with general engineering staff, verbally and written form.

Skills/Experience/Knowledge:

Essential

  • Diagnoses, locates, and troubleshoots product and board malfunctions using schematics (or other design documents) on production (and prototype) assemblies, and documenting investigation actions and appropriate rework instructions for assembly personnel or contract manufacturers.
  • Evaluates and analyzes test data and troubleshoots down to the component level including Circuit Card Assemblies (CCA).
  • Operates a wide range of test equipment that may include many of the following: digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, frequency counters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, automated test software, etc.
  • Able to debug, perform measurements, and tests at module, subassembly, assembly, and component level to assess electrical or manufacturing problems and identify corrective action.
  • Coordinates test failure reporting and corrective actions with Quality Assurance, Engineering (Operations or Design), and/or immediate supervision.
  • Experience and understanding of applying electrical theory to designs, debug, and test.

Strongly Desired

  • Experience working directly with engineers (Operations or Design) in support of a growing cross functional, multi-disciplined engineering group, working with complex systems including at the assembly and test of electronic items (assemblies, sub-assemblies, and system level).
  • Experience troubleshooting high speed (300Mbps+) digital circuit boards, AC/DC and DC/DC power supply boards for custom communications systems (typically less than 1,000W), connector boards (board interconnect and external output), cables (power and signals including twisted-pair cables, shielded and unshielded used for Ethernet, serial, video), and flexible PCBs.
  • Able to perform tests and verifications of new and existing designs.
  • Able to program and flash ICs.
  • Experience with debug/test of FPGA/Microcontroller circuits.
  • Experience with cabling design for signals including twisted-pair cables, shielded and unshielded.
  • Experience with MIL-STDs 461 and 464 (Electromagnetic Interference and Electromagnetic Compatibility), MIL-STD-1275 for design and testing, and IPC-600, 610, 620 for production requirements of electronic equipment and assemblies.
  • Experience reviewing, documenting, and dispositioning of non-conforming material.
  • Experience with an enterprise level Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system such as Aras or Windchill.
