RN Instructor / floor nurse hybrid (Long Term Care Sub-Acute) - Our Lady on Mercy Life Center - Guilderland, NY

What you will do:
  • As C.N.A instructor will be responsible for implementing the facility's training program in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures and State and Federal Requirements. As floor nurse will be responsible and accountable to utilizing the nursing process to diagnose and treat human responses to actual or potential problems of individuals or groups.


Responsibilities:
  • Teach Certified Nursing Assistant Program clinical courses in a manner consistent with the established curriculum.
  • Supervises students in clinical settings.
  • Evaluate and assess mastery of knowledge and skills through administration and grading of examinations, assignments, skills assessments, and clinical evaluations.
  • Ensures rules and/or policies governing student conduct and standards of behavior are maintained in all academic settings.
  • Require satisfactory performance of all critical knowledge and skills to ensure students are competent before performing health care related activities.
  • Prepare students for the NYS Cert. Nurse Aid Exam composed of both computer based written exam and a clinical skills exam monitored by a registered nurse evaluator. Deliver and facilitate training to address all areas of care rendered to a given population (i.e. geriatric) within the scope of practice of a Certified Nurse Aide. This will encompass biological, psychological and social elements at a beginning level in a health care setting where aides are employed.
  • Admission assessment consistent with guidelines and interview resident/significant others to complete health history
  • Utilize resources to assess residents with conditions that are new, unfamiliar or not commonly seen on unit
  • Interpret overt/covert assessment data to determine when resident is at acute psychological and/or psychosocial risk then report and record the interpretation
  • Inform and educate resident what care or service is to be provided
  • Develop and contribute to a plan of care based on potentially existing problems, expected resident response and the medical plan of care
  • Communicate the plan of care by using methods that include action plans, goals and time frames


What you will need:

Required:
  • A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New York
  • Associate's degree in nursing or Degree of Nursing from an accredited school
  • 1 year or more of experience in a skilled nursing setting as a RN
  • Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners as evidenced and documented by at least one of the following is required;
    • Completion of a professionally recognized course in teaching adult learners or New York State Education Department teacher certification
    • Two (2) years of experience teaching nursing or nursing related programs to adults in an academic setting approved by the Stated Education Department or other recognized accrediting body
    • Two (2) years of experience teaching nurse aides in a nursing home.


Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree of nursing
  • Registered Nurses at Our Lady of Mercy must possess a passion for caring for patients and demonstrate a respectful, caring, professional demeanor
  • The RN must have excellent time management and organizational skills
  • The RN must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and written and possess strong critical thinking skills to problem solve
