Summary of Role: The Dining Room Supervisor manages dining room lunch service and volunteer servers for the Meals on Wheels program at Center 50+ and the South Salem Senior Center. This position also supports community meal site administration and provides backup in the production kitchen.

This is a management position and ensures that staff and volunteers have clear work direction and guidance. The incumbent is responsible to carry out the full spectrum of management responsibilities in accordance with the agency's policies and applicable laws.

Areas of Responsibility, Evaluation and Essential Functions:
  • Senior Dining Room Services: Provides high quality customer service in two senior community meal dining rooms.
  1. Oversees operations of daily lunch service in two Meals on Wheels dining rooms, Center 50+ and South Salem Senior Center. Creating a warm, welcoming environment for all volunteers and customers.
  2. Always maintains the highest food safety and sanitation standards.
  3. Ensures dining room is set up prior to lunch service beginning and that the daily menu is updated and displayed.
  4. Plans and prepares decorations, music, games, theme days, prizes and holiday events and fun activities for customers. Supervises, trains, schedules, and coordinates all Meals on Wheels volunteer servers. Engages and cultivates relationships with volunteers and potential volunteers.
  5. Supports and manages a team of 2 part-time staff Dining Room Coordinators.
  6. Provides backup for Dining Room Coordinators as needed. Backup duties include providing daily lunch service at meal sites and/or delivery of meals to South Salem Senior Center.
  7. Builds and maintains positive relationships with senior center staff.


  • Dining Room Program Administration: Tracks client records, produces reports and provides onsite nutrition education.
  1. Oversees cash register operations each day, including balancing the books and delivering the proceeds according to Food Share policy at the end of each shift.
  2. Maintains daily production logs detailing sales figures.
  3. Produces reports on meals served and other program statistics. Comfortably utilizes POS software, TOAST.
  4. Provides quarterly nutrition education for dining room customers.
  5. Work closely with Meals on Wheels office staff on meal site client file management, tracking of meal statistics and management of Older Americans Act (OAA) meal program.
  6. Help in the Meals on Wheels production kitchen as needed.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience; Certificates,/Licenses/Registrations:
  • 2 years prior experience in food service, catering or dining room management required.
  • 1 year prior experience supervising employees or volunteers required.
  • Must possess valid Oregon Driver's license and ability to be insured by Food Share policy.
  • Current Food Handler's Card or the ability to obtain and maintain one within 30 days of employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen (excluding THC) and full background check, including driving record check and eligibility to work with vulnerable populations.

  • Ability to build and maintain Marion Polk Food Share's and Meals on Wheel's culture and team morale.
  • Passion for food security and poverty issues and motivated to serve as an ambassador for Marion Polk Food Share in all interactions with clients, vendors, customers, and the public.
  • High degree of integrity, credibility, and a drive for excellence.

Job Conditions:

Work is mainly performed in a Dining Room setting and will require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Will frequently lift, move, and carry objects more than 30 pounds. Will require regular use of arms, hands, and fingers to handle, prepare and carry kitchen tools, food, and drink. May frequently require bending, lifting, reaching, and stretching in a sometimes fast paced environment. This position will regularly interact with the public, including seniors and individuals with special needs.

Remote work is NOT possible for this position. The Food Share provides essential services to our neighbors in Marion and Polk counties. As a result, all Food Share employees may be asked to report to work during local public health, weather, or other environmental emergencies.
