Analyzes and corrects electrical problems, installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties:

Essential Functions:

  1. Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
  2. Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment.  Connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
  3. Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
  4. Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers, such as Maintenance Machine Repairer and Maintenance Tool Maker, to diagnose malfunction.
  5. Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.
  6. Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
  7. Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
  8. Pushes buttons and presses keys on robot controller, teach pendant, and programmable controller to program automated machinery, such as robots, to operate automated machinery, to test for malfunctions, and to verify repairs.
  9. Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  10. Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
  11. Inspects electrical systems.
  12. Understand and implement safe working procedures, in accordance with Trident policy and governmental regulations.
  13. Plan details of working procedure by determining replacement needs or new material required and develop a logical approach to correct the problem.
  14. Analyze circuits, wiring diagrams, and drawings to install, repair, calibrate, service, or replace electronic devices and systems.
  15. Receive wiring diagrams, specifications, and instructions from supervisor covering emergency and scheduled repairs, installations, and electrical inspection work to be performed.
  16. Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, properties of materials, and principles of operation of electrical equipment.
  17. Start up and shut down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
  18. Service electronic equipment by checking, testing, and replacing faulty components, circuits, printed circuit boards, and similar electronic devices.
  19. Install, repair, and maintain communication cables and power distribution cables, splicing pieces as required.
  20. Determine needs for, analyze, and make necessary running adjustments, repairs and overhauls.
  21. Advise and caution operators and mechanics about potential electrical problems and the inherent dangers involved.
  22. Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous electrical equipment noted and corrective actions taken.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
  2. Understands and follows all Lock out/Tag out procedures.
  3. May be part of a mechanical team on major installations: must work efficiently and effectively with all other trades such as machinists, pipefitters, millwrights, etc.
