Bilingual Counselor

Job Overview

LAMB is looking to hire enthusiastic mental health providers to provide counseling, support, and crisis management to students in English and Spanish. As part of the Special Education team, the counselor works to connect LAMB students, teachers, and families to help all our students succeed. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide psychotherapy services (i.e. individual, group, family, dyadic) to general education students and special education students regularly and by appointment
  • Provide crisis intervention support to students and staff on as-needed basis
  • Participate in SST meetings to develop and implement SST goals regarding behavioral/social/emotional needs of identified students
  • Participate in IEP meetings to develop and implement IEP goals for students with special education services
  • Implement universal preventive programs in the classroom aimed at targeting students social-emotional development and executive functions
  • Consult with teachers/school staff to identify and implement strategies aimed at targeting students' behavioral/social/emotional challenges
  • Provide Professional Development trainings on behavioral/social/emotional challenges commonly presented by primary and elementary students (e.g. bully, attachment, dysregulation of emotions, attention and concentration problems, developmental delays, anxiety and withdrawn behavior, grief, parental discord/separation, etc.)
  • Consult with parents/legal guardians on students' behavioral/social/emotional difficulties
  • Provide in-classroom support and interventions following child-centered approaches
  • Provide in-classroom support and interventions following PBIS (positive behavior intervention and support) approach
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of services provided to both general education and special education students
  • Participate in all staff meetings and professional development, as scheduled
  • Assist with arrival/dismissal and lunch/recess coverage, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications
  • Master or Doctoral Degree in Psychology, School Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a Mental Health related field
  • Licensure to practice in the District of Columbia
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
  • Successful mental health/counseling experience in a school or school-like environment (minimum 2 years preferred)
  • Experience providing evidence-based interventions to families and children ages 3 to 12 years-old
  • English fluency required; bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Ability to maintain high standards of ethics and morality and to handle sensitive information discretely and confidentially
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team (e.g. general education teachers, special education teachers, occupational therapist, speech and language pathologist)
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to parent, staff, and student needs and information
  • Experience with Google Workspace
  • Meet health requirements, including immunizations and TB screening

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Reports to: Special Education Manager

Schedule: 11-month full-time position

Compensation
