GRISWOLD INDUSTRIES SOUNDCAST Job Description Grinder/Combination Welder JOB DIMENSIONS: Job Summary: Under general supervision, grind castings to remove excess coatings and to smoothen and finish surfaces; set up, operate, and adjust swing saw and table saw to cut various types of metal; and performs related duties as assigned. Reports to: Grinding and Finishing Supervisor Examples of Duties and Responsibilities: Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and Fully comply with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations. Grinding (30%): Receives castings; Separates castings by metal coding color; Grinds excess coatings and fins; Places finished castings in container to be moved to blasting machines; and Keeps work area clean.

Combination Welder (70%): From verbal instructions, sets up, adjusts and operates MIG welding equipment to cut and meld steel castings; Sets up, adjusts and operates TIG welding equipment to cut and meld brass and aluminum; Operates Heli arcwelding equipment for x-ray welding work; Moves and positions castings for various jobs; Changes gas cylinder and uses correct welding gas for different alloys; Repairs castings, gouges and leaks; Visually checks completed work for adherence to governmental specifications; and Maintains clean work area; QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES: Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following: Experience/Training/Education: Some experience in foundry operations, preferably involving the operation of grinding machinery, and air and electric grinders; training in safety practices and procedures and proper grinding and cutting methods and techniques; considerable experience involving the operation of production welding equipment including MIG, TIG, Heliarc and torch welding methods. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to understand and follow directions; Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and related work units; Ability to operate and adjust positioning of hand grinders; Ability to exercise work concentration and precision; Ability to lift and maneuver hand-held grinding equipment in repetitive motions over long periods of time; Considerable knowledge of equipment set-up, adjustment, and operation for specific to job at hand, including MIG, TIG, Heliarc and torch welding equipment; Knowledge of safe work methods and procedures; Knowledge of emergency response procedures; Considerable knowledge of cutting methods and techniques for different types of metal, and using MIG, TIG, Heliarc and torch welding processes; and Knowledge of hazardous materials risks and emergency response procedures. Physical Requirements: Ability to bend, reach, stoop, stretch, lift, and move objects weighing 50 pounds or less, and carry material and equipment weighing 25 pounds or less; Ability to hold and repetitively move grinding equipment over long periods of time; Ability to use appropriate safety equipment as required; Ability to move heavier objects with the assistance of co-workers or using mechanical devices; and Ability to use a ladder and safely work at heights above the ground; Ability to walk/move about on uneven and/or sand-covered surfaces; and Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined; Reasonable accommodations provided upon request.
