Pathology transcriptionists usually work in an office setting with a computer and other transcription equipment. These offices could be in several different contexts. Some transcriptionists work in private or public hospitals. Roughly the same number work in clinics and physicians offices, while others work for administrative and support services that contract with healthcare providers. A fraction of transcriptionists work remotely and are self-employed contractors. Pathology transcriptionists are more likely than other medical transcriptionists to work in a medical or diagnostic laboratory.
