As a health information technician, you work at hospitals, private practices, health care clinics, and other medical facilities. Your job consists of managing patient medical information to keep accurate records. You communicate with patients to verify information and maintain file structures useful to doctors as they develop treatment plans. You manage confidential information in a variety of systems, including electronic medical record systems. Most health information technicians work in an office setting. The majority of the workday is spent at a desk, interacting with patients and colleagues on the phone and via email.
