Career: Cardiovascular Surgeon

A cardiovascular surgeon is a medical specialist who performs surgical procedures on the heart and blood vessels. Typically these surgeons work at a hospital, but they may also consult with physicians or doctors in a private practice or specialized heart clinic. Much of their work takes place in the operating room, but surgeons may also conduct initial examinations and consult with a team on post-operative care. Some job positions are available teaching classes at medical school. Qualifications for a cardiovascular surgeon include a medical degree, certification, and licensure.
