What software do product designers use?

Career: Product Designer

Product designers use a variety of software depending on the product, but you do most of your design work in computer-aided design (CAD) programs like TurboCAD or AutoCAD. These programs allow you to make 3D models. While there is a need for 2D designs, for which you can use Adobe Illustrator, you do most of your work in three dimensions. Most 2D design falls under the graphic design umbrella, which is a different discipline entirely. As many product designers now work freelance, business management software like Quickbooks can be beneficial as well.
