What makes a good family support worker?

A family support worker needs a diverse set of skills to be successful. First, you must have strong verbal communication and listening skills. You interview many people related to your client, and you need to be able to get them to talk about difficult, sometimes uncomfortable topics. You must also be dispassionate and be able to provide objective assessments of situations, particularly when a child’s safety is in question. Working in the child social services field can be stressful, as you will encounter difficult situations without good solutions, but it is also rewarding, as you ensure that children receive the care they need.
