What is a seamstress?

Career: Seamstress

A Seamstress produces new clothing and upholstery pieces from patterns or custom orders. Many Seamstresses also create their own clothing designs, decorating them with unique embroidery or other adornments, such as sequins or stitching. You may also make alterations and repairs on request; your projects may vary from basic hemming on pants to elaborate alterations on wedding gowns. Seamstresses may work for a clothing manufacturer in a large production factory and do not deal with clients, while others may work in an alterations or dry cleaning store and handle customer requests daily. Others choose to be independent contractors and provide sewing services from home.
