What is a remote transcriptionist?

A remote transcriptionist documents voice recordings, presentations, or conversations from audio to written form, often using dictation software. Unlike in-house transcriptionists, remote transcriptionists do the majority of their duties from home or another remote location. As a remote transcriptionist, your job duties include listening to recorded audio and generating a transcript of the file as quickly and accurately as possible. Some transcriptionists work as general transcriptionists, transcribing anything from short voicemails to board meetings to documentary interview transcriptions. Others complete specialized training or certifications to work in specific fields, such as legal or medical transcription. Exceptional grammar, listening, and typing skills are required in this career.
