What is a public health administrator?

Public health administrators develop programs to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent diseases in the community. They typically work for government agencies, but you also find public health administrators in non-profit organizations and educational institutions. As a public health administrator, your job duties include creating community outreach programs to inform residents of health problems affecting the area, such as lead poisoning, flu epidemics, or sexually transmitted diseases. You may also write grant proposals, organize fundraising events, and make suggestions to upper-level management or government officials on which health care issues to address in future informational campaigns. Public health administrators usually supervise staff and manage the department’s budget.
