What is a pipeline engineer?

The primary job duties of a pipeline engineer are to build, maintain, and repair oil and natural gas pumps, stations, pipelines, and pipeline transportation systems. Pipeline engineers have excellent mathematical and technical skills and come from a variety of engineering backgrounds, such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and materials engineering. As a pipeline engineer, you typically work in the oil or natural gas industries, but positions are also available in chemical manufacturing and public utilities.
