What is a fire prevention officer?

A fire prevention officer performs a variety of duties related to fire awareness and safety. In this career, you conduct inspections of buildings to ensure all fire codes are being followed, enforce any code violations, conduct investigations after a fire has occurred, and develop education and training functions. These functions are for property owners, other fire prevention officials, or community members. A fire prevention officer may also assist fire and emergency response teams when there is a fire in the community.
