What is a contract lobbyist?

As a contract lobbyist, you contract out your services to companies or organizations that need lobbying but do not keep lobbyists in-house. You may work for a lobbying firm or as an independent lobbyist. Your job duties include meeting with clients to determine goals and then meeting with politicians and other public officials to express your employers position on a piece of legislation or governmental effort that may affect their industry. Sometimes, lobbyists also help write legislation for politicians. Qualifications for the job include a bachelor’s degree in PR, law, or political science, career experience in politics, law, or the specific industry for which you lobby, and excellent negotiation, communication, and networking skills.
