What is a classifier?

A classifier reviews data or records and determines the proper classification of each piece of material. Their job duties often vary by industry; a classifier at a patent office determines the category a patent application should be placed in, while someone working in a library may classify library items according to the Dewey Decimal System. Qualifications for this career also vary by field but often include knowledge or experience in the specific area or industry, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
