What is a booking agent?

Booking agents work in a number of industries, but primarily in entertainment, especially the music industry. In this career, your duties revolve around scheduling concerts and events at a venue. You negotiate appearance contracts with performers or the performers’ management. Some booking agents are employed directly by venues, while others work independently. You can specialize in booking specific types of acts or musical genres, but many booking agents work as general agents. With smaller bands, a band manager may double as a booking agent, attempting to book dates in venues that would be appropriate for their band or artist to play.
